「尋客茶路」 以茶之名,一趟連結世界與臺灣內山的文化之路。路上交織著臺灣茶百年歷史與茶山風貌,看見臺灣人以茶敬天、謝地、待人的生活內涵,理解茶葉到茶湯的風味緣由,紀錄東方美人冠軍茶師的土地精算哲學。以茶領路,層層回溯歷史、土地與風味,尋的不僅是客家人的文化茶路,也是臺灣人在茶生活、茶風味與茶工藝的百年之路。

茶的時間流域
臺灣。世界
臺灣的高山、丘陵、臺地,有著茶樹性喜的酸性土壤與雲霧濕氣,每個時節都有適製茶款,隨著海拔與緯度,二十四節氣全島各地都在製茶,百年來出口至世界許多國家。在茶的時間流域中,跟著「臺灣24節氣土地製茶曆」與「臺灣茶以茶航行世界百年史」轉動,於茶路的起點,看見一年四季的製茶脈動及百年茶事。

走入茶山
茶路。生活
「逢山必有客,逢客必有茶」,有茶必有運輸之茶路。
清光緒開始,臺灣種茶與製茶產業在今桃竹苗內山一帶興盛,客家族群在平原與深山間的丘陵地,種茶、製茶、建立聚落,並以古道串起茶園、茶廠、茶庄及日常生活。造就北部客家庄於待客、祭祀、詩文、音樂.....等無處不是茶的特殊茶生活。

守護大地的精算師
人。土地
客家茶師在茶山中照護農地、了解風土、對抗病蟲害;客家茶師以極好的工藝,不眠不休的製茶,創造東方美人茶自然的獨特蜜香;客家茶師有如大地的精算師,照顧村落與管理農民,維持生態平衡,保持地力,守護土地與茶的價值。

臺茶風味圖譜

「臺茶風味圖譜」源自於對臺灣茶在「香氣」(嗅覺)、「滋味」(味覺)、「口感」(舌面觸覺)的探索,見微知著,從茶了解土地的滋味。
臺灣客家茶文化館
座落於茶路起點的臺灣客家茶文化館,是一座包含展覽、茶工廠、品味茶與全年齡教育的茶文化體驗園區。
2022年底開幕的臺灣客家茶文化館,位於桃園龍潭高原地區,帶領大眾從龍潭開始,回溯臺灣內山客家之旅,開啟了客家生活與臺灣茶產業、文化、生活結合的文化路徑。
臺灣客家茶文化館的常設展〈尋客茶路 Formosa Tea Way〉於2023夏天開幕,以「一趟連結世界與臺灣內山的文化之路」為題,從巨觀到微觀,理解臺灣與世界、茶與客庄生活,以及茶作為一種植物,和自然環境、人為工藝與品味美學間的關係。
In the Name of Tea, a Cultural Tour Connecting the World and the Mountain in Taiwan
The “Formosa Tea Way” begins with the relationship between Taiwan’s tea and the world. Just follow the tea’s aroma and trace along the highway in the deep mountains – we will step on the century-old tea way. Arriving at the Hakka settlement, we can feel the lifestyle of the tea mountains, and see the diverse lifestyles of Hakka tea culture. Finally, following the trip of the tea tree and tea spa, we can witness the how the Hakka tea masters work with the land accurately like actuarial scientists, and how the Hakka people protect their land and taste with careful consideration.

Tea’s time terrain

The island’s affinity with tea has continued over the four hundred years. In Taiwan, the acidic soil and misty weather permeated the high mountains, hills, and plains. In different seasons of the year, different kinds of tea were grown. The diverse tea species and promising tea-making craft provide Taiwan’s tea with a considerable magnitude for its taste. Both teas prepared for trade or refined tea had very good quality. At different altitudes and attitudes, tea was produced in the twenty-four solar terms in a year. New teas were cultivated every day; no wonder people regarded it as the empire of the tea.

Into the mountain

The meandering historic paths run among the Hakka tea shops along the ridges. The Hakka’s spirit of treating passers-by with tea, the worship of Bogong (land god), the singing of mountain songs, and more seem to be around now. Walking along the narrow paths in the mountains, we can penetrate into the settlements to experience picking tea, drying tea, and drinking tea, as well as witnessing the work, hospitality, rituals, poems, essays, and music of the Hakka settlements.
Then, we will discover that tea is everywhere.

Genius Tea Masters

Hakka tea masters are actuaries of land! Revealing the 19-hour Champion Tea-making Secret for the First Time
Oriental Beauty tea, once fetching a sky-high price of NTD 1.01 million for a pound, showcased the pinnacle of craftsmanship by a Hakka tea master. The exhibition curation team of "Formosa Tea Way" and the photography studio "Hem Hem Studio" went deep into the inland areas to document the stories of three top Oriental Beauty tea masters across generations: Yaoliang Xu, Ruilong Yang, and Junrong Liao, all winners of the special grade award, as well as the legendary 90-year-old master tea maker, Zhaoxuan Jiang. It unveils the secrets of the 19-hour tea-making process of champion tea masters, including year-round tea plantation management, soil assessment, tea picking timing, withering time, and the skillful handling of the tea leaves, describing the key aspects of tea-making that tea masters discern through their sense of smell. They tirelessly care for the tea leaves for 19 hours nonstop to create champion-grade tea.

Taiwan tea sensory map
“Taiwan tea sensory map” originated from the exploration of the "flavor" (smell), "taste", and "mouthfeel" (touch on the tongue) of teas produced in Taiwan.
The tea is beautiful gift of the co-production of the heaven, land, and people. Every cup of tea represents the landscapes of the location. There are high mountains a few thousand feet tall, hills with laterite, and plains. It is also the accumulation of tea seedlings and tea production skills over the past century. The diversity of nature, human and artisanship are blended into a cup tea to soothe our throats.
